Nottingham Forest sign former Durham and Sunderland striker Achterhof

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of former Durham and Sunderland striker Iris Achterhof on a free transfer.

The Tricky Trees announced the deal this morning via a post on their official club website.

The 25-year-old Dutch striker spent a little over two seasons with Durham between 2019 and 2021. The player scored four goals in 15 Barclays Women’s Championship appearances for The Wildcats. Her progress at the club was halted by an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury sustained early in the 2020/2021 campaign.

Achterhof joined latest club Sunderland early last season. She made four appearances for The Lady Black Cats before leaving the club in January. The forward will now be looking to make up for lost time at new club Nottingham Forest.

After joining the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier club, Achterhof said “After taking a step back from football due to mental health reasons, I was keen to get back playing, but the environment needed to be right.

“Forest is the perfect fit for me at this time, as a player and a person; the club is professional and ambitious, but the team feels like a family.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity and support from everyone at the club. Of course, the main goal is to win the league, so I just can’t wait to get back at it.”

Nottingham Forest kick the new season off at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday 21 August 2022.
