Danish national team’s Holmgaard twins join Everton

Everton have completed the double signing of Danish national team twins Sara and Karen Holmgaard from German club Turbine Potsdam.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Everton this afternoon. The pair have signed two-year deals at Walton Hall Park.

Sara is a defensive player who has been capped by Denmark on nine occasions at senior level. Sister Karen plays in midfield and has 19 caps for the Danish national team while she has scored one goal. Both players featured for Denmark at this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO.

It has been reported that Karen will join Everton next week while Sara will initially move to her former club Fortuna Hjørring on loan.

After completing the double signing of the Danish pair, Everton boss Brian Sørensen said “They have been on my transfer list from day one.

“Having worked with them at Fortuna (Hjørring), they are two of the most promising talents we have coming out of Denmark. I really like the mindset they both have. They’re combative players and good signings we have been able to make. As people, they are different, but their mentality is the same.

“Sara is of the best left-footers I’ve seen. She’s clever with her play and reads the game very well. Karen is the physical presence in midfield. She’s a player Evertonians are going to love – she has the qualities they demand from a player. Defensively and offensively on set-pieces, they are strong in the air.

“I’m really happy we have been able to bring them both in.”

Everton have now signed three players today with Manchester United goalkeeper Emily Ramsey joining the Merseyside club on loan this morning.
