Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Burns joins Reading

Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Jackie Burns has joined Barclays Women’s Super League club Reading.

The Royals announced the news this morning via a post on their official club Twitter account.

Burns arrives at the Select Car Leasing Stadium after representing Northern Ireland at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. The Green and White Army lost all three of their group games at the tournament but Burns’ performances could not be faulted. Burns is currently Northern Ireland’s number one goalkeeper and she recently collected her 40th senior international cap for the nation.

At club level, Burns started out in her homeland with Mid-Ulster before spending time in Iceland with ÍBV. The keeper then returned to Northern Ireland to play for Glentoran before most recently turning out for Swedish top flight club BK Håcken.

Reading’s goalkeeping union is now looking really strong ahead of the new season. New signing Burns will challenge Republic of Ireland international Grace Moloney for the first-choice goalkeeping jersey while youngster Rhiannon Stewart is also coming through and very much impressed in cameo roles for the Berkshire club last season.

Burns has become Reading’s third summer signing. She joins Brooke Hendrix and Becky Jane in joining The Royals so far in the close season.
