Chelsea forward Watson joins Charlton Athletic on loan

Chelsea forward Lucy Watson has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan deal.

The Addicks confirmed the move this evening via a post on their official club website.

Watson joined parent club Chelsea on a free transfer earlier this summer after leaving former club Sheffield United. The youngster featured in every Barclays Women’s Championship game for The Blades last season while she contributed eight goals. Watson will now temporarily return to the second tier in a loan spell with Charlton Athletic. The 18-year-old will look to help Karen Hills’ Addicks challenge for promotion this season.

After completing her loan move to The Oakwood, Watson said “I am really excited to now be a Charlton player. I can’t wait to meet the fans. Obviously, I have been in with the players recently and I am excited to see what this season can hold.

“Being a Charlton player now is a step-up. It is my first full-time club that I am coming into, so it is definitely going to be different. I am really excited to see how I can develop here.

“I have got quite a bit of experience in this league already but it is changing as the years come. It is only getting better and we need to keep doing that as well.”

Watson has become Charlton Athletic head coach Hills’ 11th signing of the summer transfer window.
