Sheffield United have announced the news that defender Sophie Bradley-Auckland is stepping away from the game to focus on work and family matters.
The Blades announced the news this lunchtime via a post on their official club website.
Bradley-Auckland joined Sheffield United last summer after returning to the elite game following a spell away. The defender made 18 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she scored one goal. The player was a reliable performer for The Blades while she was also a great role model for the younger members of the team.
The defender has enjoyed the best part of 16 years playing senior football. She has represented eight difference clubs while Bradley-Auckland also has 28 senior caps for England to her name.
After her exit from the game was announced, Bradley-Auckland said “I’ve loved every minute of playing for the club and with such great teammates and staff. A special thank you in particular to Redders (Neil Redfearn) for always believing in me.
“For me now, I have chosen to step away from the game as I want to focus on being with my family.”
Bradley-Auckland could opt to resume her playing career at a later date, however, at least for now, her focus turns towards her family and commitments away from elite football.
