Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall says that he wants to see some improvement in tactical and mental elements of his side’s game this season.
The Gunners begin the new campaign with a home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion at the LV Bet Stadium in Boreham Wood on Friday evening.
Arsenal ended the 2021/2022 season trophyless after falling narrowly short in all four competitions. Ahead of the new season, head coach Eidevall told FAWSL Full-Time about two specific areas that he would like to see his side improve.
“There are two things (I’d like to improve),” Eidevall said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “One is tactical about dealing better with man-marking systems and the second is mental. I want to see that even if we have events in the game that go against us such as conceding a goal or a refereeing decision….we need to not let that affect us.
“If we want to build and grow a winning team, we need to get everything on the pitch (right) in every second and in every game for all situations this year.”
Friday’s opponents Brighton & Hove Albion have had high turnovers of players in the last two summers but Eidevall is expecting The Seagulls to provide a strong challenge this weekend.
He said “I have been very impressed with Brighton in pre-season. They’ve had a huge turnover but I have seen them against Bayern Munich, I have seen them play against us and Manchester City and they have looked like a good team in those games.
“Some of the players that they have brought in have been really high quality so we expect and are preparing for a very competitive game.”
The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 7.30pm on Friday evening.
