PREVIEW: Crystal Palace v Southampton

Crystal Palace are hoping to attract a record crowd this weekend when they take on Southampton at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles will play at their spiritual home for the first time in more than 12 months on Sunday. With the English game still buzzing from UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 fever, Crystal Palace will be optimistic of receiving huge backing from the fans this weekend.

Crystal Palace go into their latest match top of the Barclays Women’s Championship table. The promotion-chasing Eagles have won both of their matches so far without conceding a goal. Manager Dean Davenport could keep faith with the same side which defeated Coventry United 3-0 last time out. Full-back Fliss Gibbons was a notable absentee from the squad for that game while fellow summer signings Paige Bailey-Gayle and Rianna Dean are yet to feature. The condition of the trio is not currently known.

Southampton travel to South London after picking up their first point of the season at Lewes last time out. The Saints boss Marieanne Spacey-Cale could opt to make one or two changes to her starting XI with the likes of Megan Wynne, Lexi Lloyd-Smith and Ella Pusey pushing for more minutes. After making an excellent contribution for the club in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last season, Sophia Pharoah is yet to feature in the Southampton squad this term while Phoebe Williams also missed the Lewes game.

The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between Crystal Palace and Southampton is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets for the match remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
