Lyon contest a good marker for Arsenal’s progress says Eidevall

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture against Lyon will be a good marker of their progress.

The Gunners begin their participation in this season’s group stage with a fixture against the European champions at the Groupama Stadium tomorrow night.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that the game will allow him to measure his side’s progress.

“It’s a very good reality check to see where we’re at at the moment,” Eidevall said. “That is always very exciting to see because no matter what, tomorrow you will know exactly where we are at, what we need to continue to improve on and what we are already good at. I’m really looking forward to seeing where we’re at.”

Lyon have an excellent recent record on home soil both domestically and in Europe but Eidevall is not taking any notice of records or reputations while the preparation doesn’t change.

He said “Yeah, I don’t really think about things in those terms. I always think that we have an obligation to represent Arsenal and we’re going to do our very best.

“To be honest, it doesn’t change if we go here to Lyon or we are away at Reading in the league, it’s the same for me personally.

“I was here in 2013 with the team I managed in Sweden, so it feels good to be back and hopefully, we can achieve a better result.”
