‘They’ve been a joy to watch’ – Aston Villa boss Ward expects exciting game against Everton

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that latest opponents Everton have played some excellent football so far this season and that Saturday’s meeting should provide some great entertainment.

The two sides meet at The Poundland Bescot Stadium. Both sides have six points on the board, although Everton have played a game more.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Aston Villa boss Ward praised Everton for the football that they have played so far this season whilst commenting that this weekend’s match should be one worth watching.

“They’ve been excellent, they really have,” Ward said. “Me and my staff have genuinely enjoyed watching and analysing them because they are a proper footballing team, they’re a great side.

“Since Brian (Sørensen) has come in, they’ve adopted a fluid system, played with a lot of freedom, a lot of quality and they’ve dominated games. They’ve been a joy to watch if I’m really honest and I’ve said to the players all week that this is going to be a proper game of football, two teams that want to play in the right way, two teams that want to dominate the ball and two sets of players that have a lot of freedom. This could be a really interesting game.”

Crowds at The Poundland Bescot Stadium are very much on the up this season and Ward praised the Aston Villa fans for their support.

She said “They’re coming out in their numbers and this season, they’ve been sensational not just at Villa Park, the noise at Walsall last week was unbelievable. Even at the end, the girls have walked off having lost the game but the fans stayed in their numbers to applaud them, give them an ovation that they did deserve.

“They’ve been exceptional this season, they really have. The numbers are growing all of the time, I don’t think we have had under 1,500 at any game this season so the numbers are really rising and I think it is a credit to the players for performing in the way they are.

“The fans have been outstanding this season, I’d argue some of the best in the league.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton at The Poundland Bescot Stadium kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
