‘It’s a fantastic start’ – Green reacts to Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain

Chelsea’s assistant manager Paul Green says that The Blues’ 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s group stage is a great start to their latest bid to win their first European title.

Millie Bright netted the only goal in the first half at the Stade Jean-Bouin. Chelsea came under some pressure as the game went on but they were never in any real danger of letting their lead slip.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Chelsea’s assistant boss Green said that The Blues have made a fantastic start in Europe this year and that they can take confidence from their victory in Paris.

“It proves that we can go anywhere, perform and get a good result,” Green said. “To come away from home and to get a good result against PSG….it is a fantastic result which will give us confidence going into the rest of the campaign.

“We need to show that we are good enough across the whole group but it’s a fantastic start. We’ve got to carry that through the remaining games and make sure that we accumulate the number of points that we need to get out of the group.”

Defender Bright has been an asset in both boxes for Chelsea over the years and she popped up at the back post to volley home the winner in Paris tonight. Green paid tribute to the player for her all-round performance.

He said “It is a great finish. As you know, she was a striker as a young player when we were both at Doncaster together and she must have been remembering that time when it came to her at the back post.

“It was a fantastic finish and I thought that her overall performance as part of that defensive unit was really solid. She’s a top player and she certainly put in a top performance tonight.”

Chelsea will now look ahead to Sunday’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
