Everton defender Gabby George has been called into the England squad by head coach Sarina Wiegman.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this afternoon.
The 25-year-old centre-back comes in as a replacement for Arsenal’s Jordan Nobbs and Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp who have both pulled out due to injury. It is understood that George is the only player to be called into the squad with England boss Wiegman opting to go with 24 players for the November camp rather than 25 players as initially planned.
Three players have now pulled out of the latest England squad in total. Chelsea forward Fran Kirby was ruled out of the November camp on Friday as a result of her ongoing recovery from illness. Everton loanee Jess Park was drafted in as Kirby’s replacement after previously being involved in the squad for the October fixtures against the United States and the Czech Republic.
The England squad travel to Spain later today for some warm weather training before taking on Japan and Norway in international friendly matches at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia. The Lionesses face Japan on Friday 11 November before taking on Norway on Tuesday 15 November. Both matches will kick-off at 7pm GMT.
