Ticket sales for next month’s Manchester derby between Manchester City and Manchester United are understood to be edging towards the 40,000 mark.
The two clubs will meet at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 11 December. The game will be the first in the Barclays Women’s Super League to be staged at Manchester City’s traditional home since the start of the 2019/2020 season.
Tickets for the match have been on-sale for several weeks and FAWSL Full-Time have this afternoon received a ticket update from Manchester City confirming that close to 40,000 have now been sold. With 12 days to go until matchday, there is still a chance that a new Barclays Women’s Super League attendance record will be set. The game must attract 43,368 fans or more to beat the current record which was set by the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium back in September.
The latest Manchester derby will see two of the Barclays Women’s Super League’s most in-form clubs go head-to-head. Manchester City have won their last five league fixtures while Manchester United are joint-top of the table after winning six of their seven matches so far this season. It is Manchester City who hold the better head-to-head record in the Barclays Women’s Super League, however, nothing can be taken for granted on derby day.
