Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor has hailed the club’s amazing fans for their support ahead of this afternoon’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion at The Academy Stadium.
The Cityzens were under severe pressure after losing their opening two games of the new Barclays Women’s Super League season but Taylor’s side have bounced back in style, winning seven matches on the spin in all competitions.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of this afternoon’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion, Taylor acknowledged the fact that his side’s latest opponents are scoring and conceding lots of goals before going on to praise the Manchester City fans for their continued support.
“They’re a difficult team to play against, they’re scoring goals and conceding goals as well, they’ve been in some high-scoring games with West Ham and Liverpool,” Taylor said. “With Hope (Powell) leaving, I don’t see too many changes in what they do and how they operate. There are no easy games in the WSL.
“We are happy to be home, even with last weekend being a Continental Cup game, it felt like a long time since we had been on home turf and it was really nice for us. We are looking forward to the game, hopefully, we get a decent crowd because the support has been amazing at home and definitely away as well. That has been a big thing that we have spoken about, the importance of our supporters.”
Taylor is keeping relatively open-minded about this afternoon’s opponents. While Brighton & Hove Albion have been involved in high-scoring games of late, the full season’s data doesn’t completely paint the same picture.
He said “We will always look at areas of strengths in the opposition and areas where we can potentially exploit, nothing changes within that regardless of whether it is Brighton or whoever.
“What the data shows you is that the fact that they are scoring more goals is probably leaving them a bit more open at the back. That’s normally the easy answer but I don’t know because we’ve watched them over the last three or four games, it’s more difficult previous to that because it is a new coach in charge.
“You always get these things that are thrown up at times – we conceded too many goals in our first two games of the season, then we’ve only conceded two goals so sometimes it can throw up some different analysis to go off from your previous games.”
