FEATURED: Three facts about rumoured Liverpool target Kerr

Liverpool boss Matt Beard is expected to add some new faces to his squad this month as The Reds look to grow further in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

It has been a solid start to life back in the top tier for the Merseyside club and with one or two new additions in this month’s transfer window, Liverpool could really begin to flourish in the second half of the season.

Liverpool have not been linked with a flurry of players so far, however, well-respected BBC Sport journalist Emma Sanders recently reported that the club may have an interest in Rangers midfielder Samantha Kerr.

Who is Kerr and what qualities would she bring to Liverpool? FAWSL Full-Time bring you three key facts about the Scotland international midfielder.

Kerr has plenty of European experience

Kerr has played UEFA Women’s Champions League football in six of the last seven seasons. She has represented both former club Glasgow City and current side Rangers in European football’s premier club competition.

The midfielder was a quarter-finalist with Glasgow City back in 2019/2020 while she also starred in Rangers’ first adventure in the competition earlier this season, helping to guide the club to Round 2.

The midfielder has collected lots of silverware

Kerr has been a member of several trophy-winning sides. The player won four consecutive Scottish Women’s Premier League titles with Glasgow City while she was also a Scottish Women’s Cup winner during her time at Petershill Park. She has carried on the silverware theme with Rangers after guiding the club to a first league title last season.

While Barclays Women’s Super League development will be the priority for Liverpool this season, having a serial winner in the camp would surely only be a good thing.

Kerr’s fine year acknowledged by her country

It was announced last week that Kerr had been voted the EE Women’s Player of the Year for the Scottish women’s national team for 2022. The midfielder made seven appearances for her country in the calendar year as Scotland narrowly missed out on qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. Kerr only made her senior international debut in 2020 therefore it is some achievement to be crowned the nation’s top performer two years on.

Liverpool resume their Barclays Women’s Super League campaign with a fixture at Manchester United on 15 January 2023.
