Chelsea midfielder Wardlaw joins Lewes on loan

Chelsea’s teenage midfielder Charlotte Wardlaw has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this afternoon.

Wardlaw joins The Rookettes on the back of spending the first half of the season on loan at Barclays Women’s Super League club Liverpool. The 19-year-old made eight appearances for The Reds in all competitions but she maybe didn’t get as many minutes as she would have hoped for when she joined the Merseyside club for a second loan spell at the start of the season. Wardlaw also spent last season on loan at Liverpool, helping the club to win the Barclays Women’s Championship title.

The midfielder is the second Chelsea player to join Lewes on loan this season. The Sussex club have also taken forward Emma Thompson on a season-long loan from The Blues. Thompson has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Lewes so far this season, scoring four goals for the club, all of which have come in the domestic cup competitions.

Wardlaw could go straight into the Lewes squad for tomorrow’s Barclays Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic at The Oakwood.
