‘We can take points off anyone’ – Spurs can mix it with the best on their day says Skinner

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that her team are capable of taking points from any opponent on their day and that their performances since the turn of the year have boosted those thoughts.

The Lilywhites have lost their last six matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League but their performances in their first two league games in 2023 have been very encouraging. Manchester United are up next with Spurs set to take on The Red Devils in front of a bumper crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Skinner said that her side believe that they can take points off any team, especially given their good quality performances in recent league defeats to Aston Villa and Chelsea.

“I think we can take points off anyone on our day, obviously, we haven’t shown that enough this season,” Skinner said. “Certainly, since the new year, we are in a better position to talk about that.

“For us, it is just about what we have been working on and how we progress that going into our next game. If we do that well, we will be able to take points out of the game.”

Manchester United are unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions but they have struggled to convert chances in their last three games. Skinner knows the threat that The Red Devils pose in the attacking third and she is not paying too much attention to the club’s quiet spell in front of the opposition goal.

She said “Clubs have ups and downs, that’s the game. Even if you think that a team haven’t scored many goals recently, ultimately, we know that they are still capable of scoring goals.

“We just need to focus on what we need to do, get ourselves in the best possible position in the game and try to get points out of it. The biggest focus for me is about what we do and regardless of where they are at, we want to disrupt their game to the best of our ability.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United is scheduled to kick-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
