Manchester City goalkeeper MacIver withdraws from England squad through injury

Manchester City goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has withdrawn from the England squad after sustaining an injury.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official squad update from The Football Association this morning.

MacIver was out on the training pitch at St George’s Park yesterday. She completed the full session alongside fellow goalkeepers Mary Earps, Ellie Roebuck and Hannah Hampton. It has today been confirmed that MacIver is carrying an injury and she will now return to Manchester City for treatment.

The keeper will miss England’s 2023 Women’s Finalissima fixture against Brazil at Wembley tomorrow while she will also be absent when the Lionesses face Australia at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford on Tuesday evening. England head coach Sarina Wiegman has opted against calling another goalkeeper into her squad and she will go into back-to-back matches with a 24-player group.

England will leave their St George’s Park training base for London later today. The Lionesses had their final training session ahead of the 2023 Women’s Finalissima this morning and the focus now turns to matchday. England will come up against a strong Brazilian outfit and one that has done well against them in past encounters.

The 2023 Women’s Finalissima between England and Brazil is scheduled to kick-off at 7.45pm at Wembley tomorrow night.
