Brighton appoint Phillips as new head coach

Brighton & Hove Albion have appointed Melissa Phillips as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Brighton & Hove Albion this evening.

Phillips joins Brighton & Hove Albion off the back of a short stint as an assistant head coach at National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Angel City. Prior to her spell back home in her native United States, Phillips enjoyed a successful stint as head coach of Barclays Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses. Phillips will be hoping to avoid a return to the English second tier with her latest club.

After signing on as Brighton & Hove Albion’s new head coach, Phillips said “I’m excited to be here and eager to get started. It’s an amazing feeling to join this club and I’m looking forward to working with the team.

“I had positive talks with the club and I knew it was the right decision to return to England. I am fully aware of our position, but confident we can grow and move up the table.”

Phillips takes charge of a Brighton & Hove Albion side that are bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table. The Seagulls have seven games to preserve their top tier status for another year.
