‘We will give it everything that we’ve got’ – Chelsea boss Hayes previews huge Barcelona task

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says that her side will give absolutely everything against Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou this evening.

The two clubs meet in Spain to contest the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final tie. Chelsea face a monstrous task with The Blues having to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the enormity of the task that awaits the South West Londoners at the Spotify Camp Nou, manager Hayes believes that her side can rise to the challenge and give it everything.

“We are looking forward to playing at this magnificent stadium,” Hayes said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “As I said after the first game, it is important for us to be in the tie and it’s only 1-0.

“There’s no doubt with their history here that we will have to be at our very best but we have a dressing room of players that want to be in this position. I know for sure that we will give it everything that we’ve got.”

After struggling to create many goalscoring opportunities against Barcelona in the first leg, Hayes knows that her side must be better on the ball this evening whilst continuing to keep things tight at the back.

She said “This is what we work for, we work to be in these positions. We know that it is going to be a quick pitch, a big pitch and we know that they are going to dominate the ball.

“For us, we know the areas that we have to improve on to get opportunities and we have players that are capable of doing that but we have to expect to suffer. You have to do that against Barcelona more than anybody else.

“As a team, we shown in the previous game that we can defend but we will have to do it at an even higher level and the execution with the football has to be at a better level.”

Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final, second leg tie against Barcelona kicks-off at 5.45pm.
