Manchester United will be hoping to take another step towards a first Barclays Women’s Super League title when they travel to The Poundland Bescot Stadium to face Aston Villa this evening.
The Red Devils are currently three points clear of nearest title challengers Manchester City who have played the same number of games. Chelsea and Arsenal occupy the third and fourth places and have games-in-hand.
Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward has a number of injury concerns to contend with ahead of her side’s latest match. Long-term absentees Meaghan Sargeant, Natasha Harding and Emily Gielnik remain sidelined, as does defender Rachel Corsie. Ward also confirmed in the pre-match press conference that youngster Freya Gregory will miss the remainder of the season through illness.
Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner is not expected to have any fresh injury concerns. Norwegian international defender Maria Thorisdottir has been ruled out of action until next season while January transfer window signing Lisa Naalsund is not yet fit enough to return.
The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Manchester United kicks-off at 7.15pm. Fans are able to buy tickets on the gate, however, it should be noted that The Poundland Bescot Stadium is a cashless venue.
