Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips says that her side are in a confident mood ahead of their trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Seagulls take on the North Londoners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening. Brighton & Hove Albion are looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool last time out.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Phillips said that her side learnt lessons from last weekend’s defeat and after a good week of training, Brighton & Hove Albion will be ready to go this evening.
“I think we are feeling confident,” Phillips said. “We are focused on our own performances and our own growth.
“We took a lot away from the Liverpool game. We had a lot of quality in possession and probably should have created a few more chances from our final third entries and we know that. We have to maintain focus on our discipline and our in-box structure and make sure that we’re incredibly difficult to break down.
“We took a lot away from it. We’ve had our first real proper training sessions this week as a team with everyone back fit and healthy and not just focusing on a sequence of matches like the first week that we had. It’s nice to focus on a single match and we are looking to put in a competitive performance this weekend.”
Brighton & Hove Albion will play in the biggest stadium that they have ever played in this evening and Phillips believes that her side will be able to manage the added pressure that it brings.
She said “We’ve talked a lot about managing pressure situations, whether that is managing a lead or managing different scenarios in the game. We have to come up with a clear action plan for how we navigate that as a team, how we communicate better, how we maintain solidarity late in games to see things out and that will be no different. With the atmosphere and the stadium, it will be something that we have to maintain our focus on and manage pressure collectively as a group.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur kicks-off at 5.15pm.
