Attacker Harder to leave Chelsea at the end of the season

Chelsea have announced the news that attacker Pernille Harder will leave the club when her contract comes to an end this summer.

The Blues revealed Harder’s scheduled departure via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Harder joined Chelsea from German club VfL Wolfsburg back in summer 2020. It was reported that The Blues paid a world-record transfer fee in excess of £250,000 to secure the player’s services at that time. The Danish international has gone on to make 79 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions in which she has netted 44 goals.

In her time with The Blues, Harder has won three Vitality Women’s FA Cups, two Barclays Women’s Super League titles and one FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. The player was also a UEFA Women’s Champions League runner-up with the club in 2020/2021.

After Harder’s Chelsea departure was confirmed, manager Emma Hayes said “Pernille is one of the best attacking players in the world and you see all of them qualities day in, day out. She has always been so driven to succeed, to get to the top and to help the team win trophies.

“Although she’s been missed with injury this season, we’ve seen especially in the last few games what qualities she has. I want to place on record my thanks for her brilliant contributions to the team’s success the past few years and I wish her the best for the future.”

Harder’s Chelsea teammate and partner Magda Eriksson is also leaving the club this summer. The pair are expected to join Bayern Munich.
