Maltese international midfielder Farrugia joins Lewes

Lewes have completed the signing of Maltese international midfielder Maria Farrugia on a free transfer.

The Rooks announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Farrugia moves to The Dripping Pan following the expiry of her contract with Lewes’ Barclays Women’s Championship rivals Durham. The midfielder spent one season with The Wildcats, making 15 appearances for the club in the second tier.

Prior to her spell with Durham, Farrugia spent time with Sunderland. She was a member of the team that successfully won their application for promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship in summer 2021.

On the international stage, Farrugia has been capped by Malta on 32 occasions while she has scored four goals for her country.

Farrugia’s arrival at Lewes comes off the back of a busy 24 hours for the club. The Rooks made their first two additions of the summer transfer window yesterday. Northern Ireland international midfielder Caragh Hamilton joined the club from Sports Direct Women’s Premiership side Glentoran before winger Anna Grey completed a move to Lewes from FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Ipswich Town.

Further squad news will be announced by Lewes in due course with the club expected to do more business in the transfer window.
