Rumoured Manchester United target Watson announces Rangers departure

Rumoured Manchester United target Emma Watson has announced her departure from Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 club Rangers.

The 17-year-old Edinburgh-born midfielder took to her personal Twitter account to confirm her Gers exit this afternoon.

After starting out with Boroughmuir Thistle, Watson joined the Rangers girls’ academy. She broke into the senior team at the age of 15. Watson has just completed her first season as a professional footballer with the club.

Watson is being tipped for a huge future in the game and the next step in her development will be with a new club. The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Barclays Women’s Super League club Manchester United over the last three months and it now seems highly likely that she will be unveiled as one of The Red Devils’ summer signings in the coming weeks. Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has previously been quizzed about the links to Watson but he played them down with the youngster still being contracted to Rangers at that time.

Manchester United need reinforcements both for the present and for the future. Seven players have departed the club so far this summer including star performers Ona Batlle and Alessia Russo. Should the club seal a deal for departing Rangers midfielder Watson, she would potentially be seen as a player who would grow into life at Manchester United over the longer period.
