Manchester United defender Niamh Murphy has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Blackburn Rovers on a permanent basis.
Blackburn Rovers announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning.
Murphy spent last season on loan at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium and she has now signed a two-year deal with Blackburn Rovers with the option of a further year after leaving parent club Manchester United last week.
The 20-year-old Scot played an important role at Blackburn Rovers last season. Murphy featured in all 22 matches for the Lancashire club in the Barclays Women’s Championship, starting 20 of those games. The youngster helped Blackburn Rovers to keep seven clean sheets including impressive shut-outs against London City Lionesses, Bristol City and Southampton.
Murphy came through the youth ranks at former club Manchester United before featuring for their WSL Academy League side. The player was named on the bench for the first team on a small number of occasions, although she failed to get game time at senior level.
Blackburn Rovers have now signed two players so far this summer, both of which started their careers at Manchester United. Another former loanee in Chloe Williams also completed a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers last week.
