Chelsea are set to face Italian Serie A Femminile TIM champions AS Roma in a pre-season friendly at Kingsmeadow.
The two heavyweights of European football will meet in England on Sunday 3 September with the match scheduled to kick-off at 8pm. AS Roma confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
The fixture will provide both clubs with a useful warm-up ahead of the start of their domestic seasons. Chelsea start the new Barclays Women’s Super League campaign at the end of September while the Serie A Femminile TIM is expected to start at a similar point in the calendar.
The game will see the current champions of England take on the team which finished in pole position in Italy last season. While the Barclays Women’s Super League is seen by many as the most competitive league in Europe, the Serie A Femminile TIM has also taken huge strides forward in recent years with AS Roma claiming their first title in 2022/2023.
Chelsea have faced AS Roma’s league rivals Fiorentina and Juventus in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in past years but they are yet to come up against the challenge of Italian football’s latest title winners.
Ticket details for the match are expected to be announced by Chelsea in due course.
