Former Leicester City midfielder Molly Pike has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Southampton on a free transfer.
The Saints announced news of their latest arrival via a post on their official club website this evening.
The 22-year-old had spent the last two years with Leicester City prior to leaving the club at the end of last season. Pike made 39 appearances for Leicester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The midfielder has also got top tier experience under her belt with Everton and Bristol City.
Pike is a creative player who can contribute both goals and assists and she should make a big impact at Southampton this season.
After completing her move to St Mary’s Stadium, Pike said “I’m really excited. The club’s ambition is amazing, and I’m really excited to be a part of that.
“The style of football that Southampton play suits me completely and it’s back down south, close to home, which is also nice.”
Southampton manager Marieanne Spacey-Cale has now added four players to her squad during the summer transfer window. In addition to Pike, Chloe Peplow, Rianna Dean and Emily Kraft have moved to St Mary’s Stadium this summer. Southampton look like strong promotion candidates ahead of the start of the new season.
