Reading appoint Gilbert as new manager

Barclays Women’s Championship club Reading have appointed former Oxford United boss Liam Gilbert as their new manager.

The Royals announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Gilbert joins Reading after guiding Oxford United to third place in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last season. The Yellows ended the campaign just two points off the league summit. Gilbert is a bright young coach who has experience in developing young players and working in the part-time game, attributes which appeal to new club Reading.

After joining The Royals, Gilbert said “It is really exciting. It is a club with a fantastic history and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“I know what the club stands for, what their morals are as a football club and the effect they have in the local community. A lot of what I know about the football club stays true to my morals and the position the club are in, the only way we can go is upwards.

“It is an exciting project to be a part of and to drive forward.”

Gilbert replaces former Reading boss Kelly Chambers who left her position at the end of last season.
