England’s opening UEFA Women’s Nations League fixture against Scotland in Sunderland has now been declared a sell-out.
The Lionesses meet their neighbours at The Stadium of Light on Friday night. The game will see both sides contest a UEFA Women’s Nations League fixture for the very first time.
Tickets for the match have been selling well in recent weeks and The Football Association have today confirmed that the final remaining seats have been snapped up. England and Scotland will therefore be cheered on by a crowd in the region of 48,000 on Friday night.
England and Scotland will both initially play six fixtures in the UEFA Women’s Nations League. The pair are joined in League A Group 1 by Belgium and The Netherlands. After Friday’s fixture, England will travel to Utrecht to face The Netherlands in their second group match while Scotland will play host to Belgium at Hampden Park.
The UEFA Women’s Nations League has been brought in to mirror the men’s tournament. At the end of the group stage, the four League A winners will go into the semi-finals with the two finalists qualifying for next summer’s Olympic Games alongside host nation France. There will also be automatic promotion and relegation between groups while the final standings will be used to help determine the starting positions for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying phase.
