Former Everton defender Sevecke joins Portland Thorns

Former Everton defender Rikke Sevecke has joined American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Portland Thorns on a short-term deal.

Thorns announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

It has been reported that Sevecke has signed on with Thorns for the remainder of the 2023 campaign while her deal could be extended for 2024.

The Danish international spent three years with former club Everton. She made 52 appearances for the Merseyside club in the Barclays Women’s Super League while she scored two goals. Sevecke will now test herself outside of Europe for the first time with Portland Thorns.

After adding Sevecke to his squad, Portland Thorns head coach Mike Norris said “We are excited to add Rikke to our roster. With a wealth of experience at club and international levels, we feel like she has a lot to offer us now and, in the future.

“Rikke has consistently shown her abilities on the ball in the WSL over the past three seasons and she will bring a physical presence and dominance to our options in the backline.”

Sevecke will be able to make her debut for her new club once a visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC) have been obtained.
