Kirk keen for Leicester City to take advantage of back-to-back home games

Leicester City head coach Willie Kirk says that his side’s next two fixtures against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur present a good opportunity to try and get more points on the board.

The Foxes have enjoyed a solid start to the season, although they have lost their last two matches against Manchester City and Liverpool.

Leicester City now have back-to-back home games against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and head coach Kirk sees it as an opportunity to bounce back.

“We’ve played Man United, Man City, Liverpool, newly-promoted Bristol and Everton who do well at keeping the ball,” Kirk said when speaking to the media ahead of the Arsenal game. “We’ve had a run of tough fixtures, so I think that prepares us for the next run of tough fixtures.

“The really big thing is that we’ve got two home league games back-to-back and we’ve got to use that to our advantage and take as many points from those two games as possible. That will be the aim, we’ll take each one at a time which is very cliché but we’ll focus on Arsenal and we’ll set up to win the game. As usual, if we don’t win, we’ll try to take a point.

“There will be a big focus on our performances, our processes and what we’re trying to do in the game. Once we do that, we’ll turn our attention to the next one.”

Leicester City lost 4-0 at home to Arsenal in Kirk’s first game in charge a year ago. The Foxes were no match for the top sides in the first half of last season but Kirk has seen the mentality grow in the dressing room over the last 12 months.

He said “It’s getting there, I wouldn’t say we’re there yet. I would still imagine there will be a bit of trepidation going in against one of the big hitters. We’re slowly turning that into the minority now and the majority of players look forward to these challenges. Hopefully, the ones who are a little bit wary of the challenge are being pulled in a positive direction from the ones that are embracing it.

“As a group, come kick-off time, I’m sure we’ll be ready for it. It’s an exciting one for me because there’s no hiding place, you can’t feel sorry for yourself, it’s a tough challenge and it’s those that we think will get the best out of the group.”

Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
