Former Everton and Manchester City midfielder Jill Scott MBE says that she is thrilled to have been inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame.
WSL Full-Time were informed of Scott’s place in the Barclays Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame via an official press release from The Football Association this afternoon.
Sunderland-born Scott is best known for winning every domestic trophy in the women’s game in England. Her honours include four Women’s FA Cups, three FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups and one league title. She won all of those trophies with Manchester City, except for her first Women’s FA Cup which she won with Everton in the 2009/2010 season. She also made 175 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Super League with her senior career spanning over an astonishing 18 years.
On the international stage, Scott made a remarkable 161 appearances for her country, her debut coming at just 19 years of age. She has played an important role in the Lionesses’ growth and success over the years; her cameo in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 final being an incredibly memorable way to say farewell to her playing days. She was the first Lioness from that squad to open up a new football pitch named after her; allowing more access to the game for women and girls from the ground up.
Retirement for Scott didn’t mean stepping away from football as she decided to take up a coaching role in the youth set up at Manchester City after gaining her UEFA B License. Scott offered guidance to younger players in the professional game, especially towards the latter stages of her career and she is set to continue making an impact off the pitch for years to come.
Speaking about her induction into the Barclays Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame, Scott said “I’m absolutely buzzing. Over the years, I’ve seen Kelly Smith, Rachel Yankey, Karen Carney and players like that get inducted, so to just have your name alongside those fantastic players, who over the years were my heroes, even when we played together for England, I would question why I was with those players at times.
“The WSL has been such a big part of my life and I dedicated my life to it. Getting a result at the weekend was everything, so looking at the award, it just brings back so many great memories. I’m really honoured.”
Ellen White MBE and Anita Asante have also been inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame this year. WSL Full-Time will have reaction from both of those inductees tomorrow.
