‘We want to show what we can do’ – Watford want to play against Arsenal insists Head

Watford midfielder Ellie Head says that the club are not going to Arsenal to just defend for their lives.

The Golden Girls travel to Meadow Park to take on The Gunners in an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie on Sunday afternoon.

As the Barclays Women’s Championship club, Watford will have to do their fair share of defending in Borehamwood, however, midfielder Head says that they also want to show what they can do on the ball.

“They’re a world-class team and exceptional athletes,” Head said when speaking to WSL Full-Time. “We know that they will have so many threats all over the pitch. It’s about sticking together, all being onboard and making sure that we are hard to beat.

“Anyone who watches us knows that we are a footballing team, we like to play. We are not going to just go there and stick 11 bodies behind the ball, we want to show what we can do.

“Obviously, it’ll be a very hard test but it’s a great game, you want to test yourself against the best. We are all looking forward to it.”

Arsenal will be backed by a sell-out crowd at Meadow Park but Head doesn’t believe that Watford will go into the game with much fear.

She said “There’s nothing to be afraid of, we go there with nothing to lose and we should all just really look forward to the occasion. These games don’t come around often so I think having a big crowd there, we should just go out and enjoy every moment of it. It should be a great day out for our fans as well, it’s what the FA Cup is all about.”

Watford are yet to face a top tier side this season and Head says that she is ready to test herself against some of the world’s best players this weekend.

“The domestic cups give us an opportunity to play against the top teams,” the midfielder said. “Growing up, thats what you want to do, you want to test yourself against the best and there’s no better opportunity to do that than against Arsenal who have some of the best players in the world.

“In the Conti Cup, we drew all Championship teams, so it’ll be good to now test ourselves against Arsenal.”

Watford’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Arsenal kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
