Chelsea’s teenage forward Claypole joins Lewes on loan

Chelsea’s teenage forward Aimee Claypole has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Rooks announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Claypole has come through the academy system at Chelsea. The youngster made her senior debut for The Blues in an Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie at Aston Villa in the 2021/2022 season. Claypole has since gone on to add a couple more appearances to her tally in the first team.

The forward is now at the age where she needs to be playing regular football and Chelsea have therefore agreed to allow Claypole to join Lewes on loan.

Claypole joins a Lewes side that are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Barclays Women’s Championship table. The Sussex club are second-bottom with half of the season played. Lewes are four points adrift from safety, although a good run of form could quickly turn their fortunes around.

The forward becomes Lewes head coach Scott Booth’s fourth signing of the January transfer window. The Rooks have also signed Jacqui Hand, Lois Roche and Hannah Godfrey in this month’s window. The club are now looking stronger going into the second half of the season.
