Chelsea defender Carter joins NJ/NY Gotham FC

Chelsea defender Jess Carter has joined American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club NJ/NY Gotham FC on a permanent deal.

News of the transfer was revealed by NJ/NY Gotham FC via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

Carter leaves Chelsea after spending the last six years with the club. The 26-year-old has played an important role in The Blues’ success. She has won 11 trophies as a Chelsea player, those being five Barclays Women’s Super League titles, three Adobe Women’s FA Cups, two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups and the FA Women’s Community Shield.

The defender will now link-up with fiancée and former Chelsea teammate Ann-Katrin Berger at new club NJ/NY Gotham FC. Berger completed her move to the NWSL prior to the end of the 2023/2024 campaign.

After completing her move Stateside, Carter said “I cannot wait to join Gotham FC. The club is playing at an incredible level right now in one of the toughest leagues in the world. I cannot wait to be a part of it all.”

Carter could feature against her former club when NJ/NY Gotham FC take on Chelsea in a friendly match on Monday 19 August 2024. The two clubs are set to meet at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
