The FA Women’s Championship’s bottom club Charlton Athletic will be hoping to cause a major upset when they face Chelsea in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round at The Oakwood on Sunday.
The Addicks are winless in the second tier this season but their campaign has been a story of too many draws with Riteesh Mishra’s side falling just short on too many occasions.
On Sunday, the club will be hoping to put on a performance in-front of a bumper crowd in Crayford as they look to stun former Women’s FA Cup winners Chelsea.
Charlton Athletic have faced two FA Women’s Super League opponents already this season losing 3-0 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and 4-0 at Arsenal in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. The Addicks will be hoping for a better outcome against all odds this weekend while they will also be keen to forget last season’s early exit in the Women’s FA Cup when they were beaten on penalty kicks by National League club Huddersfield Town at the same stage of the competition.
Chelsea make the short trip across London without the services of South Korean midfielder Ji So-Yun who is away on international duty while recent signing Sam Kerr is also set to be absent with the player poised to link-up with The Matilda’s for their qualifying matches. Manager Emma Hayes could opt to rotate her squad for the match with a busy schedule ahead.
The Blues reached the semi-finals of last season’s competition before being knocked out by Manchester City at The Academy Stadium.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm with admission available on the day.
