PREVIEW: Manchester United v Chelsea

Manchester United will be hoping that it is a case of ‘third time lucky’ when they take on Chelsea in the FA Women’s Super League at the Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

Casey Stoney’s side have played The Blues twice this season in the FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Continental League Cup but have fallen to narrow 1-0 defeats on both occasions.

United go into their latest fixture in the FA Women’s Super League winless in their last three matches, although they have been dealt some bad luck which culminated in a bizarre penalty award to Reading in their fixture with The Royals at Adams Park last weekend.

The Red Devils’ home form in the league of late is exceptionally good with five wins out of six. A shock 1-0 home defeat to struggling Bristol City last month is the only blot on their copybook.

Chelsea make the long trip to the North West without midfielder Ji So-Yun and attacker Sam Kerr who continue to be away on international duty. Emma Hayes’ side have won all of their last seven fixtures in all competitions and a recent 4-1 victory at Arsenal has brought the FA Women’s Super League title race back into their own hands.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 4.30pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 1.
