Welcome to the latest weekly update from Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
I am sure that like us, many fans have just endured a frustrating weekend with a distinct lack of football due to the horrendous weather conditions brought about by Storm Ciara.
We ourselves knew as we set off to West Ham United on Sunday that the likelihood of the game being on was low. However, being scheduled to play in London, we had to set off in case it did go ahead. In the end, after a coach change, we made it to Norton Canes services in the Midlands when we got the news that the game was postponed and we turned around and headed back.
The journey saw us encounter the most horrendous driving conditions I can ever remember and this brings me to a good point. We all knew this weather was coming, it was going to be bad and cause cancellations. With long journeys planned, a blanket cancellation of all games 24 hours beforehand may have been a better idea to avoid dangerous travel. A difficult problem for sure but one that needs to be looked at we feel for next time. Hope all fans that travelled to any games got back safe.
Happier news last week saw Manchester City players hold some #samegoals free skills sessions for youngsters to come along to. Keira Walsh held one at the City Football Academy and lots of aspiring young players turned up. Our own member Mia had a great time learning from Keira and managed to grab a photo too. A day or so later, we were all so pleased to hear that Keira has now officially signed a new contract at Manchester City. She is such a popular player with the fans, it is a pleasure to watch her week in, week out.
This coming week sees us face Bristol City at home on Wednesday and we are looking forward to welcoming our friend Rich Paish and the members of Bristol City Women Supporters’ Club to The Academy Stadium. Next Sunday the sees us welcome The Tractor Girls to the City Football Academy as we play Ipswich Town in the Women’s FA Cup fifth round. We have had a lot of interaction with their supporters online since the draw and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them to Manchester. Safe travels to all fans heading up to those games.
I will of course speak about these fixtures in more detail in next week’s update.
Enjoy your football this week.
