Liverpool will finally return to action in the FA Women’s Super League this evening when they take on champions Arsenal at the Deva Stadium in Chester.
Vicky Jepson’s side have seen their last two fixtures against Birmingham City and Everton postponed as a result of the recent stormy weather but it should be a case of ‘third time lucky’ when they host The Gunners this evening.
The game was originally scheduled to take place at Prenton Park, home of Tranmere Rovers FC, however, the poor state of the playing surface has been a huge concern in recent weeks therefore Liverpool have opted to switch the fixture to Chester following consultation with The Football Association.
Despite being second-bottom of the FA Women’s Super League table, The Reds come into the match in improved form. They secured their first league win of the season, a 1-0 success at Bristol City in their last FA Women’s Super League outing while they demolished second tier club Blackburn Rovers 8-1 at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium in the fourth round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Arsenal travel to Chester on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City last time out. That result has left Joe Montemurro’s side with plenty of work to do if they are to retain the FA Women’s Super League title. The North Londoners will be without influential midfielder Kim Little who has undergone surgery this week on a foot injury.
The two sides met in the reverse fixture at Meadow Park in November. Arsenal were the winners on that occasion with striker Vivianne Miedema firing in the only goal of the game in the first half.
Tonight’s match is scheduled to kick-off at 7pm. All pre-purchased tickets will be valid, despite the switch of venue while admission will also be available on the gate.
