Welcome to this week’s update on all things Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
I hope that you are all well and recovering from another storm affected weekend. While some fans saw their games fall foul of the weather, we were lucky that our two games this week were at home and went ahead.
Firstly, we edged a very tight FA Women’s Super League game against Bristol City last Wednesday, City won the match 1-0. We set a new record score (since turning professional in 2014) when we beat Ipswich Town 10 -0 to progress in the Women’s FA Cup. Both of these games gave us the chance to mix with fantastic supporters’ groups from these teams. We have had a long-standing friendship with Rich Paish and everyone at Bristol City Women Supporters’ Club and as ever, it was great to see them last week.
Ever since the Women’s FA Cup fifth round draw, we have been chatting with the Ipswich fan group, Tractor Girls on Tour, and it was a pleasure to meet so many of them on Sunday. We especially send our thanks to Tom and Ash who we chatted too a lot. The number of fans which Ipswich Town brought was great too, it gave the match a fantastic cup atmosphere and they were a credit to their club.
At the time of writing, all we know is that in the quarter-finals, we are back on the road with a visit to the winners of Leicester City and Reading’s fifth round tie so we wish them both the best of luck and we will see who we get when the pair meet later this week.
This weekend sees us at home again and it is another big game as we welcome Chelsea to The Academy Stadium. It is not quite a title decider, but it is a game that could go a long way to deciding the eventual champions. I am sure that Chelsea will bring a few fans so again, there will be a good atmosphere. We have a good relationship with the Chelsea Women’s Supporters Group and look forward to seeing them.
I hope that the weather improves and that there are no more postponements. Safe travels to you all and I will be back again next week.
