Manchester United manager Casey Stoney is likely to be focussing on bringing a top class striker to the club in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have enjoyed an excellent first campaign in the FA Women’s Super League so far but while United’s defensive record is the third best in the division, their weakness has been in-front of the opposition goal.
Chelsea are the most prolific side in the FA Women’s Super League with an average of 3.13 goals per game while league leaders Manchester City have a 2.44 goal average per game. Arsenal’s goalscoring average of 2.67 sees them sandwiched between Chelsea and City in the ‘goals for’ table while Manchester United are the fourth top scorers but are some way behind with an average of 1.71 goals per game.
With Stoney’s side possibly set to end their first top flight campaign in fourth place, the focus is likely to be aimed at pushing on towards the top three next season. To achieve that goal, United boss Stoney will surely be keen to add a top class striker to her side’s ranks this summer.
The likes of Lauren James (six goals) and Katie Zelem (five goals) have found themselves on the scoresheet on a regular basis this season but with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea bringing in marquee signings in attack earlier this year, United are surely set to follow.
