FA Women’s Championship champions Aston Villa will play their home fixtures at The Banks’s Stadium in Walsall next season according to the club’s sporting director Eni Aluko.
Villa’s promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League was rubber stamped on Friday following a nervous 11-day wait.
Gemma Davies’ side have been playing their home fixtures at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground in Boldmere, a stadium which holds just 230 seats, however, that venue would no longer be suitable with crowds set to increase with the added pull of top flight football.
In an interview on talkSPORT2 this evening, Villa’s sporting director Aluko has revealed that the club have come to an agreement with Walsall FC which will allow them to stage their home fixtures at The Banks’s Stadium next season. The venue has a capacity of 11,300 and has been selected to host England fixtures at various levels in the past. The club’s move to Walsall will see them move slightly further away from their traditional home of Villa Park, however, there is a little over seven miles separating the two venues.
Aston Villa returned to their current home in Boldmere ahead of the 2018/2019 season following a five-year absence during which they staged fixtures at The Lamb Ground in Tamworth.
