Young centre-back Anna Filbey has signed a new one year contract at Tottenham Hotspur with the option to extend for a further year according to reports on the club’s official website.
Filbey joined Spurs from North London rivals Arsenal ahead of the 2018/2019 season with the player having only made one appearance for the Gunners.
Initially described by Spurs as a defensive midfielder, Filbey has moved into the role of centre-back. The young player didn’t get many chances in her first campaign but in the final game of the season, away at Durham, she started and scored two goals for a Spurs side which had already secured promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
After missing the first game of this season against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Filbey has been an almost ever-present in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, making 13 appearances in 15 games. As well as in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Filbey played three games in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup, scoring away at Crystal Palace.
The 2019/2020 season has also seen Filbey capped by Wales for the first time, making her debut in the 2021 UEFA Women’s EURO qualifier in Belarus.
Upon signing her new deal, Filbey told the Spurs media team “I am really happy to have signed a new deal because I have loved every minute at Spurs so far.
“Since being here, I feel I have grown massively as a player and learnt a lot.”
