FA Women’s Championship runners-up Sheffield United have confirmed that defensive duo Sophie Barker and Ali Johnson are leaving the club this summer according to reports on the club’s official website.
The pair have played a part in Sheffield United’s impressive season in the second tier but they will now move on to further their careers elsewhere next season.
Defensive midfielder Barker leaves the Sheffield United after two seasons with the club. The 29-year-old joined The Blades in 2018 and the player has gone on to make 32 appearances for the club in the FA Women’s Championship in which she has netted two goals.
Defender Johnson has found first team opportunities hard to come by this season with the player making just five appearances for Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Championship. Johnson joined The Blades from Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Bristol City last summer but she has struggled to make an impact at The Proact Stadium with injuries also not helping her cause.
Sheffield United have given both Barker and Johnson their best wishes as the pair look forward to their next adventures. The club will no doubt look to bolster their squad ahead of a renewed promotion push next season.
