Former Chelsea and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Lauren-Amie Allen was an unused substitute for latest club Thor / KA as they thrashed Stjarnan 4-1 in their opening match of the 2020 Icelandic Urvalsdeild league.
The 24-year-old moved to Iceland in 2019 in a bid to turn professional following a considerable spell playing part-time with FA Women’s Championship club Crystal Palace. The player joined up with latest club Thor / KA last month following a spell with Inkasso League side Tindastoll.
The 2020 Urvalsdeild campaign started this weekend with Thor / KA taking on Stjarnan at Thorsvollur. Head coach Andri Hjorvar Albertsson had a decision to make with goalkeepers Allen and Harpa Johannsdottir fighting for a place between the sticks and it was the latter who was handed a start.
Allen remained an unused substitute as Thor / KA went on to win 4-1 thanks to two goals from Karen Sigurgeirsdottir and strikes from Maria Gros and Jonsdottir Hulda. The keeper will be hoping to be considered for a start when her side take on IBV in their second match of the season next weekend.
During her time in England, Allen spent 11 years in the Chelsea youth system before she enjoyed a spell with Fulham. A three-year stay with Crystal Palace followed where she helped the club transition into the FA Women’s Championship after the club were finally awarded a second tier licence in summer 2018.
