New Bristol City assistant coach Loren Dykes MBE has agreed to represent former club Cardiff City Ladies on the pitch in the coming season according to reports on the FA Women’s National League Southern Division club’s official website.
The Robins announced yesterday that the defender would be transitioning into an assistant coach role at the Stoke Gifford Stadium after more than a decade playing her football in Bristol.
It was suggested that the 32-year-old would not be calling time on her playing career and it has now been revealed that Dykes will be representing former club Cardiff City Ladies this season. The full-back started her career with the Welsh club before joining Bristol Academy in 2008. James Fishlock’s Cardiff City Ladies side finished in mid-table in the FA Women’s National League Southern Division last season before the competition was declared void due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The club will be hoping that new signing Dykes will help them achieve their FA Women’s Championship dream in the not so distant future.
Dykes made more than 150 appearances for the Bristol club in total as they transitioned from Bristol Academy to Bristol City. She was a member of the Bristol Academy side which finished as FA Women’s Super League 1 runners-up in 2013 while she helped the club to promotion under their new Bristol City identity in 2016.
The defender is a Welsh legend and was awarded an MBE in the 2020 Queen’s New Year Honours for her services to women’s football in Wales.
