Manchester United full-back Martha Harris has signed a new contract which will see her stay at the Leigh Sports Village until the end of the 2020/2021 season with an option to extend for a further year according to reports on United’s official club website.
The 25-year-old played an important role in The Red Devils winning the FA Women’s Championship title in their inaugural season, clinching promotion the top tier of English women’s football.
Harris has made 38 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal, a penalty in a 5-0 win over Millwall Lionesses. Despite having more competition for her place in the Manchester United squad last season, she still made 16 appearances as the club finished the campaign in fourth position.
The ex-Lincoln Ladies player spent four years at Liverpool prior to joining Manchester United in which she became part of a Reds side which retained the FA Women’s Super League 1 title in 2014 and competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Harris’s personal accolades include being named the 2014 PFA Young Player of the Year and Liverpool’s Player of the Season in 2016.
After signing her new contract at Manchester United, Harris told the club’s official media channels “I’m so happy to be signing a new deal with the club. I’ve loved every minute of the journey here so far and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. It’s an exciting time to be at the club, we did well last season and I know we can push on further and really compete with the top teams in the league. I am just really happy to be back training and putting in the hard work ahead of next season.”
Harris started pre-season training with Manchester United on Tuesday.
