Sheffield United defender Ellie Wilson will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in the club’s recent 3-3 draw with Blackburn Rovers at The Technique Stadium.
The 23-year-old sustained the injury in the 83rd minute of the FA Women’s Championship clash. The initial concerns were that the injury was a serious one and the club have today confirmed that to be the case via an update on their official website.
Wilson is the second Sheffield United player to be ruled out of action for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury. Teammate Alethea Paul sustained the same injury during a recent club training session and will spend a similar period of time on the sidelines.
Former Reading, Bristol City and London Bees defender Wilson joined Sheffield United in the summer. Since moving to The Technique Stadium, the player has made six appearances for The Blades in all competitions with five of those outings coming in the FA Women’s Championship. Both of Sheffield United’s FA Women’s Championship defeats so far this season have come when Wilson has not played.
It is understood that Wilson will now undergo surgery before beginning her rehabilitation with a view to returning to action next season.
