Aston Villa’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal has been postponed for a third time.
The pair were set to meet at The Banks’s Stadium this afternoon at the third time of asking but Villa have this morning confirmed that the game has been postponed again with the playing surface frozen.
The pair were originally set to contest the fixture early last month but the game was called off on safety grounds due to a positive COVID-19 test in the Arsenal camp and with other players in precautionary self-isolation. The fixture was then rescheduled for a fortnight ago but that game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch following a period of heavy rain in The Midlands.
The UK has been battered with freezing temperatures, snow and ice this week and those conditions have now resulted in the game being cancelled for a third time.
Today’s news comes days after Villa’s Second City derby fixture at Birmingham City was postponed just five minutes before kick-off due to a frozen pitch.
Aston Villa and Arsenal will now agree a new date for today’s postponed fixture with Sunday 28 February seemingly the first available date which could potentially be considered for the game.
