Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle came on to play the final half-hour of Spain’s 3-0 victory over Mexico in Marbella this evening.
The 21-year-old defender came off the bench with 33 minutes remaining, replacing Real Madrid’s Marta Corredera at right-back.
The game was goalless at the time of Batlle’s entrance into the field of play but a late flurry of goals resulted in Spain ending the match as comprehensive winners.
Despite having chances to break the deadlock, Jorge Vilda’s side had to wait until the 66th minute to finally find the back of the net through Real Madrid’s Marta Cardona. Nahikari Garcia added a second Spanish goal 14 minutes later after being played in by Leila Ouahabi before the same player made it 3-0 to the hosts in the final moments of the game.
Tonight’s victory extends Spain’s winning run in all competitions to eight matches. It was also the eighth consecutive clean sheet recorded by Vilda’s side who are yet to be breached since their 1-0 defeat to world champions the United States at the 2020 SheBelieves Cup.
Batlle will now return to Manchester United ahead of the start of their Vitality Women’s FA Cup campaign at the weekend. The Red Devils travel to Burnley in the fourth round.
